Lip filler is one of the most requested treatments in aesthetics, and one of the most frequently done badly. The results that generate concern, overfilled, uneven, or trend-chasing lips that bear no resemblance to the patient's natural anatomy, are almost always a product of poor clinical technique, excessive product volume, or insufficient understanding of lip structure.
At DG Medical Aesthetics, our approach is the opposite of all of those things. We offer lip filler from our CQC-registered, nurse-led clinic in Yardley, Birmingham, just 15 to 20 minutes from Solihull town centre via the A45 Coventry Road.
Every treatment is assessed and administered by Donna Gibson and Kerry Gibson-Harris, registered nurses with over 25 years of combined NHS and advanced aesthetic clinical experience. We do not carry out same-day lip filler on new patients, and we do not place more product than your anatomy can support naturally.
The single most important thing we tell new patients is this: the goal of lip filler is not to give you someone else's lips. It is to give you a better, more defined, more balanced version of your own.

Every lip assessment begins with an evaluation of your existing lip shape, your facial proportions, the relationship between your upper and lower lip, and the balance of your lips within your whole face. We do not look at trends. We look at you.

Many patients asking for lip filler are not actually seeking dramatically larger lips, they want their lips back. Volume loss in the lips begins in the mid-twenties and accelerates with age. The lip border softens, the cupid's bow loses definition, and the lips appear flatter and less defined than they once were. Filler placed with this in mind produces results that look entirely natural because the goal is restoration rather than alteration.

A single syringe of hyaluronic acid filler contains 1ml of product. In most cases, we recommend starting with 0.5 to 0.75ml for first-time patients, reviewing the result at two weeks, and adding conservatively if appropriate. We never place the full syringe if the anatomy doesn't call for it.

Cannula technique significantly reduces bruising and swelling compared to needle placement in the body of the lip. For many patients, this also means less discomfort during the procedure.

Not every patient requesting lip filler is a suitable candidate for the volume or result they have in mind. If our clinical assessment concludes that the outcome you want is not achievable without producing an unnatural result, we will say so clearly at consultation. This is not a commercial decision, it is a clinical one.

Lip filler is not a permanent treatment. Results typically last between 6 and 12 months depending on the product used, individual metabolism, and lifestyle factors. Longevity tends to increase with repeat treatments as the tissue response improves over time.
Lip filler is an injectable treatment that uses hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring molecule found throughout the body, to add volume, definition, and shape to the lips. It is administered using either a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula, depending on the area being treated and the technique required.
The results are immediate and settle over 10 to 14 days as minor swelling resolves and the product integrates with the surrounding tissue. Because hyaluronic acid is biocompatible and reversible, it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase enzyme if needed — it is considered the gold standard injectable filler material for lip augmentation.
Subtle transformations, beautifully captured

- Restore volume lost through natural ageing
- Add subtle, proportional definition to a naturally thin upper or lower lip
- Redefine the lip border and cupid's bow
- Improve the balance between upper and lower lip
- Soften fine vertical lines around the lip (smoker's lines) when combined with appropriate technique
- Add hydration and subtle plumpness without dramatically changing the shape
- Fundamentally change the shape of your lips in one session without producing an unnatural result
- Deliver the results of multiple syringes from a single small-volume treatment
- Correct significant anatomical asymmetry without multiple careful sessions
- Produce the same result in every patient regardless of their anatomy — individual results always vary
We are direct about this because we believe patients deserve an honest assessment of what treatment can achieve, not a sales pitch.
At DG Medical Aesthetics, all lip filler treatments use premium, prescription-only hyaluronic acid products from Juvederm and Revanesse, two of the most clinically established filler ranges available, sourced exclusively from regulated UK pharmacies and MHRA-approved.
Both brands offer lip-specific formulations designed for the unique properties of lip tissue: they are soft enough to feel natural, integrated enough to move naturally with the lips during expression, and precise enough to define the border without migration. We select the appropriate product and formulation based on your anatomy and the outcome agreed at consultation.
We do not use unbranded, unlicensed, or discount filler products. The quality of the product matters as much as the quality of the technique.
Consultation Your first appointment is a full clinical consultation. We take a detailed medical history, assess your lip shape and facial proportions, discuss what you want to achieve and what is realistically achievable, and explain the procedure, the products, the expected downtime, and the costs in full. We never carry out lip filler on the same day as a new patient consultation, this is our standard approach for all injectable treatments.
The Treatment A topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the lips 20 to 30 minutes before the procedure. This significantly reduces discomfort. The hyaluronic acid product we use also contains lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, which further numbs the area as treatment progresses. Most patients find lip filler well-tolerated; some describe a mild pinching sensation, particularly at the vermilion border.
The procedure itself takes 20 to 30 minutes. We work slowly and methodically, assessing the result in real time and adjusting as we go.
Downtime Some swelling and redness at the injection sites is normal and expected. The lips often appear more swollen than the final result immediately after treatment, this is particularly the case in the first 24 to 48 hours. Bruising is possible, most commonly at the vermilion border, and typically resolves within 3 to 7 days. We advise all patients to avoid significant social events within two weeks of their appointment.
Follow-Up We review all lip filler patients at two weeks post-treatment. This appointment is included in the treatment cost. By this point, any swelling has fully resolved and the product has settled into its final position. If you would like additional volume and your anatomy supports it, we can add conservatively at this stage.

Lip filler, when performed incorrectly or with an inadequate understanding of vascular anatomy, carries risks that can be serious. Vascular occlusion, where filler inadvertently enters or compresses a blood vessel, is a rare but potentially significant complication that requires immediate recognition and treatment by a clinician who knows exactly what to do.
DG Medical Aesthetics holds CQC registration, the same regulatory body that oversees NHS hospitals and GP surgeries. Our nurses are trained in the recognition and emergency management of vascular complications. We hold hyaluronidase on-site at all times. Our clinical protocols follow the highest standards of injectable safety practice.
When you choose a CQC-registered clinic for lip filler near Solihull, you are choosing a provider that has been independently assessed and verified. Not every aesthetics provider offering lip filler in the West Midlands meets this standard. For a treatment where safety depends on clinical judgement, anatomical knowledge, and the ability to manage complications, this distinction matters.

Yes. DG Medical Aesthetics offers lip filler treatments from our CQC-registered, nurse-led clinic in Yardley, Birmingham, approximately 15 to 20 minutes from Solihull town centre via the A45 Coventry Road.
Pricing is discussed at your consultation. It depends on the volume of product appropriate for your anatomy and the outcome agreed between you and your nurse. We do not list a flat price because we refuse to recommend a set amount before clinically assessing you. There are no hidden costs.
Most patients find lip filler lasts between 6 and 12 months. This varies based on the product used, individual metabolism, activity level, and how the lips move during expression, lips are highly mobile and tend to metabolise filler faster than less mobile areas. Longevity typically improves with regular treatments.
Topical anaesthetic cream is applied before treatment and the product itself contains lidocaine. Most patients describe the procedure as uncomfortable rather than painful. The vermilion border, the edge of the lip, is the most sensitive area. Cannula technique, where used, generally reduces discomfort and bruising compared to needle placement.
In the hands of a clinician who works conservatively from your anatomy, yes. Unnatural-looking lip filler is almost always the result of excessive volume, incorrect product selection, or disregard for the patient's individual lip structure. Our approach is to start with less than you might expect, review at two weeks, and add conservatively, which consistently produces results that look entirely like natural lips.
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase enzyme if needed, whether due to a complication, an outcome you are not happy with, or simply a change of preference. We hold hyaluronidase on-site at all times.
A lip flip uses a small amount of muscle-relaxing injection (a prescription-only medicine) placed into the orbicularis oris muscle above the lip, causing the upper lip to roll slightly outward and appear fuller. It does not add volume, it changes how the lip sits. A lip flip is not the same as lip filler, and the two treatments achieve different outcomes. If you are interested in a lip flip, this would be discussed at your consultation.
The technique, the product formulation, and the anatomical considerations are all specific to the lip. Lip-specific hyaluronic acid products are formulated to be softer and more flexible than the products used in the cheeks or jawline, they need to move naturally with the lips during speaking, smiling, and eating. The same principles of anatomy-led, conservative placement apply across all filler treatments, but the lip is one of the most technically demanding areas to treat well.
Yes, always. We do not carry out lip filler at a patient's first visit. A full clinical consultation is required before any treatment recommendation is made. This is how we ensure every treatment we carry out is appropriate for the individual in front of us.
