Seeing Red? How We Treat Vascular Skin Concerns at DG Medical Aesthetics

If you are dealing with persistent redness, visible veins, or vascular birthmarks, you already know how frustrating it can be to conceal them. Vascular skin concerns are incredibly common, but they can also take a toll on your confidence.

Seeing Red? How We Treat Vascular Skin Concerns at DG Medical Aesthetics

At DG Medical Aesthetics, we understand that true skin transformation requires a targeted approach. We combine industry-leading laser technology with medical-grade skincare to manage and reduce vascular issues.

Here is a comprehensive guide to the conditions we treat, the technology we use, and the at-home skincare we recommend to keep your complexion calm and clear.

Understanding Vascular Conditions

Before we can treat a concern, we have to understand exactly what is happening beneath the skin's surface.

  • Rosacea: A chronic inflammatory condition that primarily affects the face. It causes widespread redness, flushing, and sometimes small, sensitive bumps.

  • Thread Veins: Also known as spider veins or telangiectasia. These are tiny, dilated blood vessels that sit just beneath the skin's surface, often appearing as delicate red or purple lines on the face.

  • Leg Veins: Similar to thread veins but occurring on the lower body. They are often slightly larger or deeper due to gravity and physical pressure.

Important Note: We do not treat varicose veins at DG Medical Aesthetics. Varicose veins are larger, bulging, or twisted veins that are raised above the skin's surface. These require a medical evaluation and specific interventions performed by a specialist vascular surgeon.

  • Naevus Flammeus: Commonly known as a port-wine stain. This is a vascular birthmark caused by the abnormal development of blood vessels, resulting in a flat, dark red or purplish patch of skin.

Our Laser Technology

We utilise a highly advanced suite of laser and light-based platforms to safely target unwanted pigment and vessels.

  • LP 1064 ClearVas: This Long-Pulsed Nd:YAG laser penetrates deeply into the tissue. It targets and coagulates the blood inside larger or deeper vessels, causing the vessel wall to collapse and eventually be absorbed by the body. It is particularly brilliant for tackling stubborn cosmetic leg veins.

  • DYE-VL: This is a next-generation Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology. It seeks out the haemoglobin (the red pigment in your blood) to safely heat and break down superficial vascular lesions. It is highly effective for treating the diffuse redness associated with rosacea.

  • Vascupen: When precision is key, the Vascupen is our tool of choice. It allows us to trace and eliminate individual, fine thread veins with pinpoint accuracy without heating the surrounding healthy tissue.

  • ClearSkin: This non-ablative fractional laser features an integrated vacuum mechanism. While it is famous for treating breakouts, it is also highly effective at stimulating cellular renewal and calming the persistent erythema (redness) and inflammation linked to acne rosacea.

The Treatment Journey

Because vascular conditions are deeply rooted in your unique biology and physiology, it is important to understand that there is no permanent cure. However, they can be highly managed.

To achieve visible, lasting results, we generally recommend a course of at least 3 sessions. For more stubborn or long-term conditions (like established port-wine stains or severe rosacea), we recommend at least 6 sessions.

Once you have achieved your desired clearance, ongoing maintenance sessions will be necessary to keep new vessels from forming and to keep inflammation at bay.

Skincare Recommendations for Inflammatory Vascular Concerns

In-clinic treatments do the heavy lifting, but your daily skincare routine protects your investment. We recommend the following to support and soothe your skin barrier:

  • Vitamin C: A powerhouse antioxidant. Vitamin C helps to strengthen delicate capillary walls, making them less prone to dilating or bursting.

  • SPF: Ultraviolet radiation is a massive trigger for vascular dilation and rosacea flare-ups. A broad-spectrum SPF is non-negotiable for protecting vulnerable skin from further inflammation.

  • Obagi HydroDrops: Hydration is vital for impaired skin barriers, but heavy creams can trap heat and worsen flushing. These drops provide weightless, soothing hydration with Vitamin B3 (niacinamide) to repair the barrier without clogging pores.

  • Obagi NU-GEN Cellular Renewal Serum: This advanced formula uses NAD+ technology to recharge your skin at a cellular level. By replenishing declining cellular energy, it strengthens barrier health, calms redness, and improves your skin's resilience against inflammatory triggers.

  • ZO Rozatrol: Formulated specifically for red and sensitised skin. It contains an advanced amino acid complex that promotes healthy microcirculation alongside gentle enzymes that encourage cellular turnover without causing the irritation normally associated with exfoliants.

Taking control of your vascular skin concerns starts with a proper diagnosis and a tailored plan. Book a consultation with us at DG Medical Aesthetics to find out which combination of treatments is right for you.
